Frequently Asked Questions

Backcountry Business Solutions – Small Business IT Services

General

Q: What kinds of businesses do you work with?
We primarily support small businesses and nonprofits—think local shops, trades, professional services, hospitality, churches, and community organizations. If you rely on email, internet, phones, or cloud apps to get work done, you’re our kind of customer.

Q: Do you only work locally, or can you help remote offices too?
We’re a local-focused provider, but we can absolutely support remote workers, satellite offices, and hybrid teams through remote tools and cloud services. For network, Wi-Fi, and physical equipment, we’ll work with you to schedule on-site visits where it makes sense.

Q: We don’t have any IT person on staff—can you be “our IT department”?
Yes, that’s exactly how many of our clients work with us. We act as your virtual IT department, handling day-to-day support, planning, security, and projects so you don’t have to juggle tech on top of running the business.

Services & Pricing

Q: Do you offer monthly plans, or just one-time projects?
We offer both: ongoing retainer plans for continuous support and monitoring, and project work for things like migrations, upgrades, or one-time cleanups. Many clients start with a project and then move into a retainer once they see the value of having steady support.

Q: Is this only for larger small businesses, or can very small teams use your services too?
We work with teams of all sizes—from solo owners and 2–3 person shops up to multi-location organizations. We right-size the solutions to your budget and needs rather than assuming everyone is a mini-enterprise.

Q: How do you price your services?
We typically use a mix of flat-rate monthly pricing for ongoing support and management, plus project-based pricing for bigger initiatives. Once we understand your environment and goals, we’ll give you clear, upfront estimates with no surprise add-ons.

Support & Response

Q: What happens if something goes down and we need urgent help?
You contact us (phone/email/ticket), and a real person responds—no endless phone trees. We’ll triage the issue quickly and either resolve it remotely or schedule an on-site visit if it’s a physical or network problem that needs hands-on work.

Q: Do you offer after-hours or emergency support?
Yes, we have options for after-hours and emergency support depending on your agreement and business needs. If uptime is critical for you beyond regular hours, we’ll factor that into your support plan.

Q: How do you support remote workers and home offices?
We help set up secure access to your systems, configure devices, and support common tools like Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, VPN, and cloud apps. Your remote staff can reach out to us directly for help, just like in-office employees.

Network, Internet & Security

Q: Can you help improve our Wi-Fi and internet reliability?
Definitely. We assess your current setup, recommend business-grade network equipment where needed, and configure things like Quality of Service (QoS) so calls and critical apps stay smooth. We can also set up redundant internet connections so an outage with one provider doesn’t take your whole business offline.

Q: Do you manage firewalls and network security?
Yes, we deploy and manage business-class firewalls, secure your Wi-Fi, and help separate guest and internal networks. Our goal is to keep your network locked down enough to be safe while still letting your team work without unnecessary roadblocks.

Q: Do you offer cybersecurity services like antivirus and patching?
We handle endpoint protection (AV/EDR), operating system and software updates, and basic security hardening as part of our device and network management. For higher-risk environments, we can layer on additional tools and monitoring.

Cloud, Email & Phones

Q: Can you migrate us to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace—or between them?
Yes. We handle migrations to and from Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, as well as cleanup and reorganization of existing environments. We focus on preserving email, calendars, contacts, and shared files with minimal downtime and clear communication to your team.

Q: Do you manage our cloud accounts after the migration?
We can fully manage your cloud environment: user accounts, licenses, security settings, shared drives/sites, and ongoing support. Think of us as your “cloud guide” making sure everything stays secure and organized.

Q: Do you set up business phone systems and virtual numbers?
We help design and configure modern VoIP phone systems, including virtual numbers, auto-attendants, call routing, and mobile/desktop apps. We integrate phones with your network and internet setup so calls stay clear and reliable.

Backup, Disaster Recovery & Continuity

Q: Do you provide backup and disaster recovery services?
Yes, Disaster Recovery and backup are core parts of what we do. We design backup strategies (onsite and cloud), test restores, and create clear recovery plans so you know how you’ll get back up and running after a hardware failure, ransomware attack, or other incident.

Q: How often are backups done, and can you test them?
Backup schedules depend on your needs—from daily to multiple times per day for critical systems. We strongly believe in test restores and can regularly verify that backups are working so you’re not relying on blind trust.

Nonprofits & Specialization

Q: Do you work with churches and nonprofit organizations?
Absolutely—we love nonprofit partners. We understand the budget and approval realities they face, and we’re familiar with nonprofit programs from Google, Microsoft, and other vendors to help you get substantial discounts on many products and services.

Q: Can you help us apply for nonprofit licensing and discounts?
Yes, we can guide you through eligibility, documentation, and the selection of the right nonprofit plans so you’re not overpaying or missing out on benefits you qualify for.
